Nene is a lady that believes she will turn as one of Africa's best heads and hand in her chosen career

A highly ambitious style siren Nene released two singles in 2012, "Ligali"ft Jhybo  & "Tonight" and she also released a video for "Tonight" directed by Tosin Igho in january 2013..

HER STORY…….  Born Nene Johnson on the 16th of April, and hails from Abia state. She is a captivating singer, a multifaceted

entertainer and an entrepreneur. She's the 3rd child of six siblings, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from the Lagos State University [LASU] in 2011.

LOVE FOR MUSIC

This young lady  had an uncontrollable craving for music at a very tender age, as she's been in different choirs while growing up in her early days as a minor. Things became more serious and professional in her teenage years.
In 2005, NEJ met Mona Okoroalum her friend and ex band mate at a modeling agency, observing they had the same love and passion for music both girls decided to merge and formed group called “XTACY”.

THE GROUP

The group Xtacy enjoyed massive love from the media and constant airplay but it didn’t look like the group could stand the test of time as incompetent managerial issues led to the breakup of Xtacy leaving the girls on a quest for solo efforts in 2007.

After this split, Nene Johnson aka NEJ signed a management contract with NOW MUSIC where she successfully released an EP titled MY FACE. The EP had four songs and the hit single My face also had a colourful video to back it up. The EP had a very positive turnout..  Her contract with the management firm expired in late 2008 and she moved on to further explore the vast dynasty of the Nigerian Music Industry and Entertainment circle.

NEJ got back with the group XTACY in late 2008, as they were signed and brought back together by a UK based label, Kendi Records. They worked together for a while under the Kendi Records platform for a while, releasing some singles titled Dodo and E Go Beta which also had a beautiful video shot by Ace Director Clarence Peters. The video didn’t only get limitless airplay but also got a nomination at the 2010 NMVA in the Best Use of Costume category. The sexy duo, XTACY, eventually and finally parted ways amicably in March 2011.

PASSIONATE LADY

Nene Johnson, a very passionate and strong willed individual does not relent as she rebrands as a Solo Act, puts the past behind her and carves a totally new identity for herself. She adopts the stage name NEJ, which is an acronym for “Nene Johnson”. With originality in her unquestionable talent, a very distinctive voice, strong personality and a unique style of her own, she’s in a world of her own. Simply put NEJ‘s here to leave her footprints in the sands of history.

The brand new NEJ releases 'LIGALI' her first single in April 2012. NEJ featured Jhybo the Rapper, aka Run There Mouth Crooner on her song, LIGALI which was also produced by the exceptionally talented Mcvance. The inspiration behind this song is “LOVE“. It’s about a young lady who’s bold enough to express her love for a guy she is crazy about and the word “Ligali” is a slang used to express a happy feeling like the chorus says: “Na U Dey Make Me Ligali, Afurum Gi Nanya Dim Oma…” meaning “you gladen my heart, you bring me joy, you drive me crazy, you make me happy, I love u my fine husband…”, and then JHYBO jumps on it to spice it up with a blend of Yoruba and Ibo rap. Ligali is basically a love song for the brave hearts with a blend of ibo representing the Eastern part of Nigeria where she hails from and a blend of Yoruba from Jhybo thereby cutting across to the west as well.

NEJ dropped her 2nd single 'TONITE' in october 2012, a sequel to her debut single 'LIGALI'. The Song 'Tonite' is a smoky hot, groovy tune which gives us a feel of the sassy and free spirited side of the sultry & beautiful songstress..
With this latest single of hers, NEJ expresses the beauty, fun & craziness of the night life & how she's letting her hair down & allowing the rhythm of the music take control of her. There's a line in the hook which says ''Nwanne Biko, Chelu Kam Joli' meaning, ''HOLD IT, I WANNA HAVE FUN'' & that's basically what the song Tonite's about.

The official video for her second single TONIGHT was released on the Internet an TV Houses in January 23rd, 2013.. The response has been massively encouraging. The downloads of the video has been so massive and the ratings and comments are totally inspiring.

Not long ago, she launched her NGO with concern for little children – a body that is about child asthma and diabetes, her role is to teach people with these children how to cater and take care of them and their environs. The do's and don’ts etc.

ON THE SECRET OF HER NATURAL BEAUTY

(Loud aloud laughter) I do not stress myself, I commit my ways to GOD, I drink a lot of water and rest a lot, I read, I mediate, I love to view the beauty of God, may stress and stress in vain, but not me, am at peace with myself

I do not drink or smoke so I Take lot water, fruits. Facial scrubs or masks, sleep a lot, do not get me wrong, I ALSO work hard like machine, but I draw the line, I DO MY part and I leave the rest to my creator, why stress when the bible says am  wonderfully and beautifully made by God, the day I read that in bible I changed my mind set, I became  different from inside and told myself am going to be unique,intelligent,smart, humble, am a peoples person, that is born with beauty and got brains.

ON HER UPBRINGING AND YOUTHFUL LESSON LEARNT

Am a proud Benue pikin (child of Benue, the food basket of Africa) I HAVE two type of royalty in my blood, royalty from my creator, GOD AND Am from a royal family in Agila Benue State.

AM honored to be raised by VERY STRICT FAMILY, My upbringing was pretty much very strict Because of my dad’s military background, always prim and proper. Lesson from my father I learnt and saw while growing  up can make any man great, if you are

a   man and you and you practice my dad’s virtues you must be great, he was neat, he told us that GOD IS neat so we must be neat, he was hardworking, hardly kept friends, reads bible daily and lived a  Spartan life, he never wanted us to be wayward, he say if we must follow men, we must get our education right first and must love the man for love sake , not for money  or vanity

ON HER DREAM NGO BABY

Am not shocked as to my passion for charity and unfortunately weak children...I grew up meeting charity, my mom does a lot of giving to the needy. So I guess I learn t from her, helping people makes me happy. So it my way of giving back to the society, also my foundation Susan Peters Foundation Benue Pikin has some children adopted also that we take care of.

My NGO is about child asthma and diabetes, we teach people with these children how to cater and take care of them and their environs. The do's and don’ts etc.Am very passionate about little children, I love them, more than ever when they are weak, they are from GOD, we must show them love to see GOD MORE

My last birthday last June was spent at the LEKKI 1 motherless babies home but my focus was with kids with asthma and diabetes, they are my love and I CAN CUT MY ARM FOR THEM, my prayer is that our rich group should spend more of their time and money to help such kids, they are human and need love’’
